An Institutional Proposal for the Self-Help Production of Social Housing in La Florida, Santiago, Chile

Abstract

This paper aims at contributing to the discussion around new ways of providing an efficient answer to the very serious housing problem affecting the low income sector in Chile. This housing problems mean, on the one hand, that there are people who still don't have a house and on the other that there are people whose houses do not meet minimum habitability standards. The paper also aims at stablishing the guidelines for a Self-built Housing Program, sponsored by the "La Florida" Municipality as well as the basic elements which the functioning of such project should take into account.

Arquitecto argentino, titulado en la Universidad Católica de Córdova, Argentina. Actualmente es jefe del Area de Investigación y Asistencia Técnica de la Escuela Taller "El Encuentro" del Departamento de Vivienda de la Dirección de Desarrollo Social de la Ilustre Municipalidad de La Florida, Santiago, Chile. Autor del "Proyecto 92", de soluciones habitacionales por sistema de autocontrucción en General Roca, Provincia de Rio Negro, Argentina.
