Abstract

This paper describes and provides a critical analysis of a housing project built in 1965. Back then as well as today, it caught the interest of and produced a debate within specialized circles. At the time it was built, this was an old and decadent area within Santiago de Chile. The author of this paper, an architectural studio teacher at several universities, was one of the four architects that developed the project and is often visited by university students interested in knowing the opinion of one of the authors. It is precisely this fact that motivated him to write this paper. In spite of this, he confesses that since those days he feels he owes something to himself and this is an attempt to cancel that debt. He does understand the difficulty of doing an objective analysis since he took part in the creative process of the work, he therefore anticipates that he will only add a vision from within to the existing information.
