Authors

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the perceptions of young teachers in Chile regarding the implementation and development of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in the educational system. The research is nested in an interpretive paradigm and qualitative approach where semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 recently employed teachers and final year student teachers from different universities in Santiago, Chile, in order to explore their experiences and perspectives on CSE. The results reveal the urgent need to establish a clear national policy to regulate and promote the teaching of CSE, in addition to existing barriers such as cultural resistance and lack of specific training in universities. It also highlights the relevance of a holistic approach that addresses emotional, social and self-care dimensions, which are fundamental for the integral development of students. This study concludes that it is essential to strengthen teacher training and educational policies to ensure an inclusive, effective and equitable implementation of CSE in the Chilean context.
