Searle argues that institutional facts, such as money or laws, are built on raw facts, thus ensuring an objective social reality. However, this approach has not been without criticism, such as that of Barry Smith, who warns that not all social entities require a physical correlate, as with electronic money, corporations, or debts, challenging the explanatory power of Serlean's social ontology. The article explores how a pragmatic approach could enrich understanding social reality by focusing on social practices and effects beyond physical or linguistic representations. By examining the life of institutions from this perspective, a broader explanation of the complexity of social entities and their interactions with the physical world could be offered.
